Grab Your Caboose, New Northern Boys Just Dropped

Fans of a good (but also kinda bad) time have been blessed once again with a new track from UK’s most unlikely party rappers, The Northern Boys. And damn have they been through the wringer since last we saw them.

The video for the new single “Sexy Train” opens with a shot of our favorite raunchy lads chatting with strangers at a station. A caption then informs us that vocalist Norman Pain has been recovering from deep vein thrombosis and jaundice. His partner on the mic, PKJ, is also sporting a knee brace.

The track then gets off to a raucous start, but soon the beat stops as Norman appears to regurgitate some manner of bodily fluid. As the screen cuts to black, captions return to tell us that Norman’s health once again took a dive. This appears to be a reference to the aforementioned liver and clotting issues, but that’s OK. He got better. Now it’s time to party.

Norman, PKJ, and of course Kevin proceed to fill the rest of the video’s runtime with clumsy dancing and their patented darkly funny and pathetically horny punchlines. Here are a few of the standouts:

  • “I’m a strong, fancy gentleman. Shoot my load from a tree like Spider-Man.”
  • “I got a spring in my step. Let’s measure things with a trigonometry set. Cause I’m high.”
  • “I wanna kiss your face. I gotta make love slow because my leg’s in a brace.”
  • “My mate Kev has dementia. He says ‘Hi’ and forgets he met ya. His whole life’s an insane adventure. Sometimes he sleeps in the shopping center.”

If you’re noticing a lyrical theme in “Sexy Train,” it seems the aging rappers are confronting their diminishing health with an uplifting spirit of debauchery. There is no escaping the ravages of time. But never let the party die.

Music Video Flashback: Declan McKenna’s Brazil

What good is a weekend without a catchy song to play? For your listening (and watching!) pleasure, I submit Brazil, by Declan McKenna. For you Gen X’ers and Boomers who haven’t heard of him, he’s a British singer who penned this song in 2015 to protest the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. That’s why you’ll hear references to “the beautiful…

MAGA’s Worst Nightmare is Taylor Swift

If you thought a couple as wholesome (and frankly, straight and white) as Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce couldn’t get the MAGA crowd riled up, you were wrong. After all, MAGA is all about “traditional” American values, and if movies and music videos have taught me anything, there’s nothing more “all-American” than a beautiful, popular blond girl cheering on her…

Did The Grammys Just Win the Awards Shows War?

We weren’t even planning to properly watch The Grammy Awards at my house. It’s one of those shows that’s usually turned off halfway through, if not forgotten about completely. The Grammys are just too sprawling, covering every possible genre of music–or rather, trying to and failing miserably. Somehow, while attempting to include everything from musical theater to audio books to…
