This Iconic Piece of Horror Cinema Is Set for Auction — and the Price Might Keep You Up at Night

One, two, Freddy’s iconic blade-fingered glove could be coming to you — if you’re willing to part with a boiler room full of cash.

Yes, the original bladed glove worn by Robert Englund in 1984’s A Nightmare on Elm Street and its sequel, Freddy’s Revenge, is up for auction. But your dream of owning this classic piece of cinema could soon turn tragic as the item comes with a starting bid of 100,000 pounds.

In our inferior U.S. currency, that shakes out to about $121,760. But we’re just getting started.

It’s estimated that Krueger’s signature gauntlet could go for as much as 400,000 pounds — or almost half a million in U.S. currency. To put that in perspective, the entire estimated budget for A Nightmare on Elm Street is just over $1 million. If only Freddy had worn a second glove.

According to the auction house, Propstore Auction, the authenticity of the prop has been confirmed by original designer Jim Doyle and fabricator Lou Carlucci. Not only is it the genuine prop from the 1894 horror classic, it is the only metal-bladed glove crafted for the film. “This is God” indeed, Freddy.

This one-of-a-kind piece comes with Doyle’s original hand-drawn schematic that was approved by horror legend Wes Craven, the writer and director of the first Elm Street. Bidding closes on Nov. 9, 2023, so unfortunately you won’t be able to pull off the most extravagant yet screen-accurate Halloween costume this side of Heidi Klum’s annual October brouhaha.

If your tastes for horror are a bit less high-end and closer in proximity to Camp Crystal Lake, several items from the Friday the 13th series are also up for grabs. Jason Voorhees’ hockey mask from the series’ fourth installment, Jason Lives, comes with a starting bid of 7,500 pounds ($9,132). A mask from Jason Goes to Hell starts out with an asking rate of 20,000 pounds ($24,352)

Splitting the difference, both Jason’s classic hockey mask and terrible chrome futuristic mask worn in the less-than-stellar Jason X open at 12,500 pounds a piece ($15,220). Unfortunately, Pamela Voorhees’ tattered sweater is not up for grabs, as we all know how effective it is at stopping the machete-wielding mama’s boy in his tracks.

This current auction features a ton of other, non-horror-related props and memorabilia, so I suggest checking it out. If only to daydream about owning a gremlin.

What 2022’s Greatest Horror Films Say About the Year

This has been such an exceptional year for horror that it feels misplaced. By that I mean that finding pure enjoyment in anything these past few years seems anachronistic. Damsel Makes the Tiniest Bit of Progress

SPOILERS for Damsel. And 1981’s Dragonslayer. When I was a kid, there was a movie called Dragonslayer that played on cable over and over. It featured a cross-dressing girl and Peter MacNicol as the titular hero, which in retrospect is hilarious but was bizarre even at the time. It also had a dragon that demanded–and received–virgin girls as regular sacrifices,…
