Here’s an infographic on what your cat can eat. The emphasis seems to be on the can.
It was purportedly made by the folks over at AnimalPath.org and it has some folks up in arms. First let’s look at the infographic.

Cat lovers everywhere have lashed out at the infographic because, for starters, it doesn’t list chocolate even though it’s more dangerous for cats than dogs and it’s listed on the AnimalPath website. Seems like a pretty glaring oversight.

It’s making the rounds on Reddit, too, where Redditors are smashing it.
Here’s one from reddit user consummate-absurdity:
This guide is incorrect, to the point of being potentially dangerous. Cats are carnivores. They lack the enzymes to process carbohydrates and plant matter. They should be eating raw meat (including chicken), balanced to provide them feline-friendly nutrition. Beyond that they ought to have access to grass or something for grazing (basically to help them vomit up anything causing stomach upset).
Here’s another one from reddit user Lickuids:
They are obligate carnivores. They can eat free carb foods and get benefit from fiber but they absolutely need meat to live healthy. Please do not feed your cat a majority vegan diet, it is not good for their health.
One more from redditor Less_Rutabaga2316
Cats, like most carnivorans (order not diet), have an exceedingly short digestive tract which allows them to eat bacteria laden meat and not get sick. They’re obligate carnivores (diet), the sugars in bananas, blueberries, apples, etc., are more likely to harm them than the bacteria in raw chicken.
And just to make sure we show all sides, here’s a reddit user that’s clearly trying to kill their pet.
Dew-fan-forever-
Just fed my cat chocolate chip muffin the other day. She loved it. She just ate a little piece of the breading with a chocolate chip in it but she looked like she really enjoyed it.
Maybe ease up on the Mountain Dew, there, Dew-fan-forever. I’m reading that lots of cats are lactose intolerant, so perhaps you can dial it back to something that gives your pet a tummy ache rather than trying to outright murder them?
So, what say you, cat lovers? How does your cat eat? What did you read on this infographic that made you say uh oh?
